Airedale Olympic CC’s annual Reliability Ride took place on Sunday 11th February 2018.
Approximately 75 riders braved wintry conditions to tackle the hilly 43.5 mile route from Pool-in-Wharfedale to Knaresborough via Summerbridge and Ripon.
Whether preparing for the racing season ahead or building fitness for club rides, ‘reliability trials’ have traditionally demonstrated that a rider and their bicycle are reliable for the year ahead by completing a set course within a designated time, in this case 3.5 hours.
All AOCC riders and almost all other entrants completed the course, albeit one rider did abandon due to a snapped saddle!
At the fast end, local racers including professionals Scott Thwaites and Alistair Brownlee completed the course in a little over 2 hours.
At the steadier end, a mixed group of Airedale riders and others enjoyed completing the route in just over 3 hours, proving that reliability rides are not all about racing pace!
Excellent refreshments were available at the end of the ride at the Holy Trinity Church Hall, which also benefited from a charitable donation made by the club.
Thanks to all those who volunteered to help with the event and to those who took part,
